Welcome to the Flanders Air War Web Site
The Flanders Air War online multiplayer campaign is hosted by the Black Haze Squadron.  It is based on the Flanders in Flames patches and campaign rules produced by Jagdgeschwader 1 for Sierra's Red Baron 3D WWI combat flight simulation.

Join us in the war torn skies over France in a series of campaigns spanning the breadth of the first air campaign in history.  You will be able operate the most important aircraft fielded during WWI from the years 1915 to 1918 in a series of organized campaign tournaments.  The missions and feel of the game is more like the real thing than any other WWI flight simulation campaign presently online.  You will have the opportunity to pilot realistic WWI aerial combat missions that reflect those actually conducted during the Great War.  Participate in balloon busting, bombing, recon, trench mapping, escort and other missions that will test your skills and ability to survive.  Learn to rely on your squadron mates as you find that Lone Wolves die quickly in these brutal skies and that  teamwork will lead you to victory while minimizing losses instead.  You will only have one life to live, so you must fly intelligently and use the decisions which give you the best chance for survival until the next mission is ready to go.  Death during a campaign session here means that you are done for the night, so your responses and actions will be determined by your desire and need to survive, above all things, just as in real life combat.

This campaign series is based on the Flanders in Flames patches produced by Jagdgeschwader I and Wolfgang von Wellenhausen in the heyday of the Red Baron 3D massive multiplayer community.  It uses an advanced flight model which is far more realistic than the stock Normal Flight Model that RB3D comes with.  This flight model is more challenging and unforgiving of mistakes, but this lends greatly to the enjoyment you will get out of the game.  The war is broken up into several patches which will be dealt with chronologically to cover the entire length of the conflict.   The war sessions are held every Tuesday night at 09:00pm Eastern US time and last for 3 hours.  Each campaign will last for 8 weeks and then there will be a short break as we prepare the next campaign.

If you are interested in giving FAW a try, then click on the Registration button above and fill out the short form you will find.  You will be contacted by e-mail by the FAW Project Team and we will happily start you on your journey off the aerodrome and into the virtual skies of WWI.  We are presently accepting registration for the Flanders Air War I, which will cover the time period from the start of the air war to the beginning of 1916.  So get your goggles and scarf ready, yell 'Contact' as your engine roars to life, start your bumpy trip down the airfield until your canvas wings lift you up to join your comrades in the sky.  We will be waiting. :)
