Thank you for your interest in the Black Haze Squadron.  Our members are a group of close friends who support each other on and off the field of virtual combat.  We are looking for new members who can conduct themselves in an honest, honorable and mature manner.  Pilots who cheat, participate in "flame wars", fail to show respect to others, act immaturely or in an arrogant or boastful manner are not welcome.   Players new to the game, or flight simulations in general, are very welcome, as are (of course) experienced Red Baron and flight simulation pilots.

New Pilots - Players who are new to the game, or are inexperienced in flight simulations start as an Unteroffizer (corporal) and undergo several months of training.  They are promoted to a full squadron pilot's position, a Feldwebel (sergeant), when the Commanding Officer decides the recruit is skilled enough to perform satisfactorily in the line of fire.

Experienced Pilots - Pilots who transfer from other Red Baron squadrons are not expected to undergo recruit training and are posted immediately as a full squadron pilot.  Unless there is a prior agreement with the Hauptmann, all medals and kills awarded by the former squadron are lost, however, campaign ribbons are presented to all members for participation in any past organized Red Baron 3D campaigns and tournaments no matter what squadron they were in at the time.  It is possible for an experienced pilot to be assigned a command position when joining the squad, but this will be determined by the Hauptmann and if there are positions available to be filled.

Practice - We practice every Tuesday night at 9pm eastern time (-5 GMT) for up to two hours.   The squadron meets on the Teamspeak server, a few minutes prior to 9pm.  There is generally some socialization and bs for a while as the plans for the practice session are established.  We then select the appropriate server, connect with it and follow the practice plan.  There is no set time to leave, once the specific goals of the session are met, and members generally will be on the server from one to two hours.

War - This squadron is dedicated to participating in as many wars, campaigns and tournaments as we have the time and manpower to attend.  We are generally either involved in a campaign or planning for one and practicing hard.  The campaigns usually involve one session a week, some have the sessions on the weekends and some are during the week.  They can be from 2½ to 3 hours in length, for 8 to 16 weeks (sometimes longer).  We meet on Teamspeak ½ hour before the session is slated to start.  Teamspeak is allowed during the war sessions in some wars and not in others.  This is a game, and we all are aware of that, but we also take our hobby seriously and perform our best during a campaign session.  This includes following orders, acting with honor and sportsmanship, making good decisions and protecting your wingmates.  We are a team, not just a collection of individuals and we expect you to act accordingly.  It is expected that Black Haze pilots put the good of their team and teammates before their own fun, statistics and personal virtual glory.

Attendance and Dedication - We understand that every one of our members has a real life, with family, a job, other obligations, etc., that they have to fit Red Baron into.  Some have more free time, or are more willing to dedicate the time they do have to the squadron, than others.  RL has to come first, we realize that, and every accommodation will be made for anyone who wants to stay on the roster, but only has the time to participate on occasion.  They are welcome anytime they are able to fly with us, however, the more time that any member has to devote to the squadron is appreciated.  The truth is that occasional members cannot keep a squad alive and functioning.  The staff members of Black Haze are made up of individuals who have more time to put into the squad and are willing to take on some responsibilities in addition to flying in the campaigns.  If you are willing and able to take on some jobs yourself, let the staff know, be dependable and you are much more likely to be promoted to a responsible position.  Members who disappear without contacting any squad members for an extended period of time, and fails to answer e-mail queries, will be dropped from the roster.

Conduct - Black Haze pilots are required to conduct themselves with honor and respect for others at all times.  You are expected to always salute the opponent when, either he or you, are shot down.  Avoid verbal conflicts with others and forum "flame wars" and let the staff handle any such unnecessary personal conflicts.  Remember, when you are "in uniform" your conduct reflects on your squadron.

Name - You must select a squad name that you will be known by when "in uniform".  The name starts with BH and should also include your rank, but that is not required.  A new recruit would appear like BH_Uffz.(Name) or BH_(Name).  We are a German squadron, so German sounding names are great, but you can select any appropriate name that you wish

Forum - All Black Haze pilots are required to register on the squadron forums.  When you sign up, use your new squadron name.  You can also add a photo or image as an avatar.  If you do not provide an avatar you will be given a generic avatar.  Once you are signed up and accepted into the squadron, you will be permitted into the private forums.
